Lee Valley man, 74, released in Jan Downey drowning case

A 74-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found drowned in a ditch in Essex has been released without charge.

The man was questioned after Jan Downey, 62, of Daws Hill, near Sewardstone, west Essex, was discovered near her home on 10 March.

Police at the time said it was being treated as a domestic-related incident.

They now believe no offence was committed, have closed the case and will prepare a report for the coroner.

The man, also of the Lee Valley area, had been on bail.
