Basildon house 'made into drugs factory'

A house raided by police in Essex had been almost entirely turned over to the growth of cannabis.

Police forced their way into the property on Priors Close, Basildon, on Thursday and found most of the house was being used as a drugs "factory".

Extraction pipes blocked the stairs and ran throughout the house, and numerous plugs were connected to the power supply to run hydroponics equipment.

Police said they uncovered several bin bags full of cannabis.

Most of the plants had already been cropped, officers added.

Sgt Paul Costin said: "I am absolutely delighted that we have disrupted quite a large cannabis factory in a quiet residential area.

"We have stopped quite a sophisticated set up in growing more cannabis that was destined for the streets of Basildon."
