Fireworks powder causes Essex police 'bomb' evacuation

A police base in an Essex village was evacuated after a suspected bomb was found in land at the back of the station on Monday.

A 100m cordon was set up around the station in Stansted Mountfitchet, close to Stansted Airport, after the device was found by officers at 12.30 BST.

Army disposal experts found the device contained the type of powder used in fireworks and was not dangerous.

The cordon and road closures were lifted about 18:00 BST.
