Man charged over alleyway rape in Southend on Saturday

Update 29 May 2018: Daniel Eyre was found not guilty of the Southend alleyway rape on 18 April 2013, by a jury at Basildon Crown Court.

An 18-year-old man has been charged with raping a woman in an alleyway at a seaside resort in Essex.

Daniel Eyre of Blyth Avenue, Shoebury, will appear before Southend Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Police said a young woman was attacked in an alleyway off Clarence Street in Southend at 02:00 BST on Saturday.

A police spokeswoman said witnesses had not yet come forward and she appealed for anyone with information to contact the force.
