Ongar farm death: Fourth man sought over assault

A fourth man is being sought by police investigating an assault at a farm in Essex where a murder took place.

Police called to Meadow View Farm near Ongar on Friday, 7 September found William Martindale unconscious. He later died.

A 54-year-old man from east London, a friend of Mr Martindale's, was also found on the farm site with serious head and chest injuries.

Police believe a fourth man was present at the time, and are keen to trace him.

A provisional post-mortem examination result showed that 39-year-old Mr Martindale, from Cripsey Avenue in Ongar, died from head injuries.

The 54-year-old unnamed man is now recovering at home.

Paul Groves, 33, was arrested and charged with murdering Mr Martindale and assaulting the 54-year-old, causing grievous bodily harm.

Mr Groves, a factory worker from Queensway in Ongar, was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on 3 December.

A 66-year-old man from Ongar is on police bail after being arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
