Driver charged over fatal crash in Essex

A 21-year-old man has been charged with causing death by careless driving over a crash involving three cars in Essex.

Kegan Gates, of Victoria Road, Stanford-le-Hope, was driving a BMW car that was in collision with a VW Golf and another car on 15 December.

The front-seat passenger in the Golf, Sophie Lennox, 21, from Edmonton, died in the crash on the A1089 slip road at the junction with the A13, near Orsett.

Mr Gates has been bailed to appear at Basildon Magistrates Court on 20 June.

The Golf left the road, struck a lamp-post and rolled down a steep embankment, police said.

The 21-year-old male driver of the Golf, from Grays, received serious injuries and a three-year-old child was slightly hurt.
