Sainsbury's staff tied up in Ongar armed robbery

Supermarket night staff were tied up and locked in a room by armed robbers who stole cigarettes and alcohol.

One of the three workers at the Sainsbury's store in Bansons Lane, in Ongar was assaulted and needed hospital treatment in the robbery at 02:20 BST.

Essex Police said a "number of men" - one armed with a shotgun - carried out the robbery.

A search of the area by officers and the police helicopter failed to catch those responsible.

Police have appealed for anybody with information to contact them.
