A police officer has been seriously injured after a police car overturned on the A12 in Essex.

All three lanes of the southbound stretch have reopened after the accident at 07:30 BST at Margaretting, near Chelmsford.

The Metropolitan Police's Silver Hyundai i30 was the only vehicle involved, Essex Police said.

Two male officers were in the car at the time and one was taken to hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries.

A Met Police spokesman said the marked car was not answering an emergency call when the crash happened.
