Essex Police charge man over David Fletcher van theft injury

A 40-year-old man has been charged with driving offences after a courier was seriously injured.

David Fletcher, 58, from Upminster was hurt when two men tried to steal his van in Purfleet, Essex on 9 July as he was making a delivery in Wood Avenue.

Leonard Wilsher, has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Mr Wilsher, of The Fremnells, Basildon, was remanded in custody.

He is due to appear before magistrates in Chelmsford later.

Five other men arrested in connection with the case are on police bail until 20 September.

Mr Fletcher remains in hospital.
