Burned out BMW linked to Chelmsford murder attempt

A burned-out car found in Essex could be linked to a "drug-related" murder attempt, police said.

A 17-year-old, who was walking with a friend, was run over by a BMW before he was stabbed in an attack on Dorset Avenue, Chelmsford, on Thursday night.

The BMW drove off after the attack accompanied by another.

The force are now examining a burnt out BMW X5 found in Warren Road, Rettendon, after fire services were alerted to the car about 21:20 GMT on Friday.

The victim remains in hospital in a critical condition.

'Known to each other'

His friend, a man in his 20s, was "struck a glancing blow by the car but was unharmed", police said.

Essex Police said the attack was probably "drug-related" and those involved "known to each other".

Det Ch Insp Mark Hall, from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: "We urgently need to speak to anyone who believes they may have seen either of the BMWs involved in this incident.

"We are currently looking into this burned out car to see if it could be linked in any way to the attempted murder, so we also need to hear from anyone who may have any information about this arson or the earlier assault."
