An officer with the Essex force's roads policing unit is to appear in court over a crash in which a woman's foot was crushed and her daughter injured.

PC Paul Calpin, 44, was driving a marked BMW 530 when it collided with the woman's Audi A3 at Sadlers Farm roundabout in Bowers Gifford in May.

He will appear at Colchester Magistrates' Court on 18 November.

The officer has been reported for careless driving after the crash, near the A13/A130 interchange.

He was with a colleague when the collision happened, at about 12:55 BST on 4 May.

Both officers sustained minor cuts and muscular injuries.

Essex Police said the woman was still receiving treatment for her injuries.
