Gheorge Negreanu, 24, accused of modern slavery offences

A man has been charged with human trafficking and modern slavery offences in Essex.

Gheorge Negreanu, 24, who was arrested at Wycke Hill, Maldon, is accused of intentionally facilitating travel of a person with a view to sexual exploitation, police said.

He has also been charged with managing a brothel and controlling prostitution for gain.

Mr Negreanu will appear before magistrates in Chelmsford on Thursday.

He was arrested as part of a nationwide crackdown on crime linked to trafficking - including prostitution - forced labour, abuse and exploitation.

Two other men, aged 21 and 38, were arrested last week on suspicion of immigration offences as part of the same operation in the county.

They have been referred to Border Force after being found picking oysters on Southend beach.
