A man who died after his car crashed into a house and hit a tree in Essex was known to friends as "gentle giant" because of his "big heart", his parents have said.

Christopher McDonald, 20, of New Road, Burnham on Crouch, died in the accident at about 02:30 BST in Steeple Road, St Lawrence on Tuesday.

He worked as a mechanic and was studying engineering at college.

His parents said he "brought a ray of sunshine into the lives of everyone".

Mr McDonald's blue Peugeot 206 clipped the front of a house before hitting the tree.

He was declared dead at the scene.

No-one else was in the vehicle.

His death had "left a huge void" in the lives of his parents, brother and sister, the family said.
