A 24-year-old motorcyclist died in a hit-and-run crash in Essex involving a BMW car, police said.

The man, from Harlow, died in Tylers Road, Roydon, at about 04:15 GMT on Christmas Eve.

Police said the BMW, which was travelling in the opposite direction, is thought to have collided with the motorbike but did not stop.

The car is likely to have damage to its front, said a spokesman. The road was closed for several hours.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "An investigation has begun into the incident and police believe that a BMW car which was travelling in the opposite direction towards Nazeing was in collision with the motorbike but failed to stop."
