Essex traffic officer Paul Calpin sentenced for careless driving

A police officer has been fined for careless driving after a crash which crushed a woman's foot and left her husband and five-year-old daughter with minor injuries.

Paul Calpin, of Laindon Roads Policing Unit in Essex, admitted the offence.

The 45-year-old was driving a marked BMW 530 when he crashed with the family's Audi A3 at Sadlers Farm roundabout in May 2014.

He was given three penalty points and a £350 fine by Basildon magistrates.

He was also ordered to pay £120 in costs and a £35 victim surcharge.
