Police investigating the death of a man in a park in Essex are urging a man who asked a dog walker for directions to come forward.

Aydin Eldeniz, 28, was found by dog walkers in Northlands Park, Basildon, on Monday and died at the scene.

Detectives are also investigating the possibility that his fatal injury - a single stab wound to the chest - may have been self-inflicted.

They said the man who spoke to the dog walker could have useful information.

He is believed to have been in the park between 16:00 and 17:30 GMT and asked for directions to the lakes, police said.

There would be extra officers in the Northlands Park area over the Christmas period to provide reassurance to the community, a force spokesman added.
