Work starts to replace ageing water pipes in Cheltenham

Drivers in Cheltenham are being warned to expect disruption on Monday when work begins to replace Cheltenham's ageing water pipes.

Severn Trent said the work to replace 10km (6.2 miles) of water mains pipes would start in Oriel Road with one lane closed to traffic for almost two weeks.

Engineers will then move to Imperial Square before switching to the Promenade during August.

The £1.5m scheme is expected to last 12 months and focuses on the Alstone area.

Severn Trent said the work was essential to ensure people continued to receive uninterrupted supplies of water, and said it hoped to keep any disruption to a minimum.
