Published

Five people have been rescued from a fire in a flat above a Gloucester pub.

Firefighters received a call just before 0220 BST to report that people were trapped in the property above Northend Vaults, Northgate Street.

Crews used ladders to rescue the five from the flat, where the kitchen was on fire.

All five were suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke and were treated by ambulance crews at the scene before being taken to hospital.

Crews from Gloucester, Stroud and Cheltenham tackled the fire for two hours.

The cause of the fire was thought to be accidental.
