Special lollies keep Slimbridge otters cool

Otters at a Gloucestershire reserve are being given special ice lollies to keep them cool during warmer weather.

John Crooks, mammal manager at Slimbridge Wetland Centre, makes the treats from fish, mince, apples, carrots and blackberries.

A spokesman from the centre said the family of four have been enjoying them every day over the summer.

Mr Crooks said the lollies helped stop the animals from over-heating and kept them hydrated.

He presented two of the mammals with a first birthday cake made from ingredients including meat, fish heads and grated vegetables in February.

The otters, called Flo, Mo, Minnie and Ha Ha, are part of the Back from the Brink exhibit of wetland mammals, which opened last August.
