Bus and lorry crash at traffic lights in Gloucester

A bus driver and three passengers were taken to hospital after a crash with an articulated lorry on the outskirts of Gloucester.

The accident happened at the Cole Avenue traffic lights near Bristol Road just before 0900 BST.

Two lanes of traffic were closed while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

The bus driver was thrown from his cab through the window and suffered suspected neck and back injuries.

Three female passengers on the single-decker Stagecoach bus were also taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital - one with an abdominal injury, one with a knee injury and one reporting pain in her left shoulder.

Paramedic Ian Dowding said: "When I pulled up, the traffic lights were down, the bus had spun horizontally across the road and the front of the vehicle had been ripped off.

"It looked horrendous and I feared the worst, so it was lucky that none of the injuries are likely to be particularly serious."
