CCTV of Cheltenham sex assault suspect is released

A CCTV image of a man wanted in connection with a sexual assault on a boy in Cheltenham has been released by police.

An eight-year-old boy was sitting on a wheelie bin near the Hardwicke Campus of the University of Gloucestershire when he was approached by a man.

The boy ran off after the man assaulted him by kissing him on the lips and cheek, and lifting him up off the bin.

The incident happened between 1615 and 1630 BST on 30 September.

The man was described as black, aged between 48 and 58, and about 5ft 6in tall. He had grey hair, a grey goatee beard, dark eyes and a crooked nose.

He was wearing a cream coloured blazer, white shirt, cream/brown trousers and black shoes.

Det Con Nicola Nicholson, of Gloucestershire Police, said: "We have been following all lines of enquiries following this assault and are now appealing to the public for their help identifying the man.

"We would like to reassure the local community that incidents of this nature are extremely rare. This assault is being taken very seriously and thoroughly investigated."
