Decision on Tesco store for Churchdown postponed

A decision on plans for a new superstore in Churchdown, Gloucestershire, has been postponed in favour of a site visit.

Tewkesbury Borough councillors had been expected to approve the application to build a Tesco store on the site of the former Hurrans Garden Centre.

Instead they said they needed to assess the impact on highway safety, look at the siting and design and examine the implications for residential amenities.

The visit will take place next week.

The plans attracted some criticism when they were unveiled in December last year.

Critics said the superstore would have a detrimental effect on smaller businesses nearby.
