A 36-year-old man who was found collapsed in a street in Cheltenham has died in hospital.

Police were called to Wellington Lane at 0800 GMT on Saturday after a passer-by discovered the man.

He was taken to Cheltenham General Hospital in a critical condition but died later.

A Gloucestershire Police spokeswoman said the death was currently being treated as unexplained.

"A post-mortem examination is being conducted today," she added.

On Saturday a force spokesman said the man was very cold when he was discovered and it was thought he may have been lying on the pavement for some time.

"Detectives are trying to piece together the man's movements and are appealing for witnesses," he said.

"Anyone who was in the area between 10pm on Friday and 8am on Saturday is asked to contact police or Crimestoppers."
