Two men have appeared in court charged with robbing and murdering a man from Gloucester.

Keith Soons, 36, who had an eight-month old daughter, was stabbed in the head in Cheltenham on 5 February.

Michael Sexton, 27, of Moors Avenue, Cheltenham and Richard Smith, 26, of Fairview Road, also in Cheltenham, appeared before the town's magistrates.

The two men were remanded in custody and were ordered to appear at Bristol Crown Court on 22 February.

The men are jointly accused of the murder of Mr Soons and the robbery of his wallet, bank card, store card, a ring and iPhone between 4 and 6 February.

Three other men, aged 26, 27 and 28, also arrested in connection with the inquiry, have been released on bail by Gloucestershire Police.

Mr Soons, who had been on a night out when he was attacked, was found the following morning with serious injuries in Wellington Lane in Pitville, Cheltenham. He was taken to hospital but died later.
