Cheltenham rubbish bin collections move to fortnightly

Changes take place to Cheltenham's refuse and recycling services from this week.

From Monday household bin collections move to fortnightly and a new weekly food waste collection will take place.

A Cheltenham Borough Council spokesman said the move would make a "huge difference" in the amount of waste sent to landfill.

"We think people will get used to the changes quickly and we can work together to recycle more," he said.

The borough council hopes to recycle 50% of household waste by 2015.

"It really is easy to make a positive impact on the environment by simply separating out our waste.

"All affected households should have had the food waste caddies delivered along with leaflets explaining how the system will work," he added.

The current fortnightly kerbside recycling service remains unchanged.
