Man stabbed in attack in Cheltenham town centre

A man has been stabbed in an attack in Cheltenham.

Police were called to the town centre shortly after 0230 BST following reports that a 28-year-old man had been seriously assaulted.

The victim was taken to Cheltenham General Hospital and the area cordoned off and road closed while officers carried out inquiries.

Injuries to the man, who has not been named, are not said to be life-threatening.

A police spokesman said the victim and a friend were walking along the lower High Street near the Bar and Wok restaurant when they were approached by one or more attackers and the victim was then stabbed.

Gloucester police are also appealing for witnesses after a 36-year-old man was stabbed in Tredworth on Sunday night.

The victim was approached by a man he is believed to have known who stabbed him several times in the stomach and leg.

A 36-year-old from Gloucester was arrested and later released on police bail.
