A man has been found guilty of stabbing his ex-fiancee with scissors after the pair had been to a prayer meeting.

Prosecutors said Nigel Bassett, 63, made a "frenzied" attack on Julie Grey last November - minutes after she called off their wedding.

The pair, both Baptists, had just met a minister to discuss their problems.

Bassett, of Parklands, Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, had denied attempted murder

Mrs Grey, 61, a widow from Oldbury-on-Severn, told the jury she had broken up with Bassett "moments earlier as she could no longer live with his possessive and jealous behaviour".

Bassett had admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after the incident in a Wotton-under-Edge car park.

He will be sentenced on 19 July.
