British Car Auctions sites set to close

Plans have been announced to close two branches of British Car Auctions, in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire and in Newport, south Wales.

The used vehicle auction company has 21 centres in the UK. The firm refused to say how many jobs were at risk.

A spokesman said the company was "proposing to mothball" both sites at the end of the year.

The firm said it wanted to "consolidate existing business" from the two centres to a centre in Bridgwater, Somerset.

"We have entered into discussions with the employees most directly affected by this proposal," the spokesman said.

British Car Auctions' head office is based in Farnham, Surrey.
