Man dies in South Cerney hit-and-run

A 24-year-old man has died in a hit-and-run crash near Cirencester, in Gloucestershire.

The local man was hit as he walked along the B4696 Spine Road East, in South Cerney, at about 00:30 BST on Sunday.

His next of kin and the coroner have been informed.

Police believe at least one vehicle, which failed to stop, was involved in the incident and appealed for the driver to come forward.

Det Insp Ruth Mather said: "We would like to hear from anyone who was driving along that road between 12.15am and 12.30am.

"We want to build up a clear picture of the events leading up to this tragic incident.

"This man was wearing a dark top and a dark coloured baseball cap and anyone who saw him walking in this area should call police."

She added: "The driver of this vehicle needs to think about the consequences of his or her actions and for the sake this young man's family I would urge them to come forward.

"The car involved could well have been damaged as a result of this incident.

"Anyone who notices a neighbour's car with new damage to the front of their vehicle should also call us."

The road is closed between its junctions with Station Road and Fridays Ham Lane. Broadway Lane is also closed between the Spine Road and South Cerney village.

The closures are likely to remain for several hours whilst investigations continue.
