Gloucestershire's 15-year waste plan approved

A 15-year plan to manage household and business waste in Gloucestershire has been approved by the county council.

The Waste Core Strategy 2012-27 aims to boost household recycling and composting rates by at least 60% by 2020.

Five waste sites are also set to be developed in the county to process the anticipated increase in waste.

The county council has said it aims to become less reliant on landfill in order to avoid landfill tax penalties.

The council is also planning to build a waste incinerator near junction 12 of the M5.

The planning application is expected to be considered by the cross-party planning committee next January.
