Stroud M5 collision leaves woman seriously injured
A woman was seriously hurt in a crash that forced the partial closure of the M5 in Gloucestershire for eight hours.
The collision involving five cars and a van took place on the northbound carriageway, near Stroud on Wednesday evening.
A number of people had to be cut from their vehicles by firefighters.
A 38-year-old woman, from Ross-on-Wye, who was travelling in the van was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol and has undergone emergency surgery.
Two other people suffered injuries not thought to be life threatening.
A second accident, on the southbound carriageway, hampered attempts to reopen the motorway.
