Driver arrested over rider death on the M3 in Hampshire
A 29-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of careless driving after a motorcyclist died following a collision involving three cars in Hampshire.
The crash, involving a Vauxhall Corsa, an Alfa Romeo and a Ford Fiesta, happened on the M3 between junctions 5 and 6 at midnight on Friday.
The rider, aged 53, from Basingstoke, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers think he came off his bike and was hit by at least one car. The Dorset Corsa driver is due to be interviewed.
The 35-year-old Romeo driver, from Basingstoke, and 47-year-old Fiesta driver, from Dorset, were unhurt.
"Next-of-kin inquiries are in hand [but] the motorcyclist has not yet been formally identified," a spokesman said.
"All the drivers provided negative breath tests at the scene," he added.
The road was closed for six hours to allow the bike to be recovered and officers to examine the scene.
Hampshire Constabulary is appealing for witnesses.
