Woman hurt in stomach in Southampton attack

A woman was attacked and injured as she walked through Southampton.

The 21-year-old was talking on her mobile phone when she was approached by a man in the Gordon Avenue area of the city on Sunday evening.

The man threatened her with a sharp implement and injured her in the stomach. She is in hospital but the injury is not life threatening.

The woman managed to activate a personal attack alarm and get help at a nearby house.

Det Sgt Will Whale said: "This is a high density student area and there would have been a lot of people around at the time of this attack.

"I need people to come forward and tell us if they saw or heard anything earlier this evening which could be connected and help us in this investigation."
