Nine arrests over man found dead in Southampton stream

Nine people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found dead in a Southampton stream.

Shawn Williams, 42, (also known as Simon) from Woolston, was found near Springford Road, Coxford, on 20 July.

He had discharged himself from a city hospital on 3 July after suffering head injuries in an attack in Northam.

Three 16-year-old boys, three 17-year-old boys, a 15-year-old boy, and two men, aged 18 and 21, have been bailed until 15 December, police said.

Mr Williams never made a complaint about the attack near Princes Park and his family later released a photograph showing his injuries in the hope people would come forward.

Police believe Mr Williams, of Victoria Road, was attacked as he walked through Northam estate between 0730 and 0830 BST on 3 July.

Hampshire Police made an appeal on the BBC's Crimewatch show on 8 September.
