A man and a woman have been arrested in connection with the death of a baby boy in Portsmouth.

Hampshire Constabulary said the three-month-old infant had been pronounced dead at a hospital at about 0530 BST on Sunday.

The hospital contacted police and an investigation began, a police spokesman said.

The arrested 21-year-old woman and 33-year-old man, both from Paulsgrove, have been bailed until 8 December.

Julian Wooster, director of children's services at Portsmouth City Council, said: "We are deeply saddened by this death and local agencies are working together to support the family and the police with their ongoing inquiries."
