Woman raped in Southampton after accepting lift

A woman was raped by a man she had accepted a lift from following a night out in Southampton.

The 20-year-old victim took a taxi from Bliss nightclub in the early hours of Saturday morning.

She was dropped off on the city centre side of Itchen Bridge before accepting a lift from a man in a passing car.

She got out on the other side of the bridge and walked down a zig-zag path leading towards Defender Walk but the man followed her and raped her.

After the attack, he went back to his car and drove away.

Police are keen to hear from anyone crossing the bridge between 0240 and 0400 GMT, in particular people who saw the woman or a car parked near the toll booths.
