The National Trust is urging walkers to work off Christmas excess on a new outdoor exercise trail at one of its Hampshire properties.

A new one-mile (1.6km) fitness trail in the grounds of Mottisfont Abbey features apparatus made of locally-sourced wood.

Ten exercise points include step-ups, bars and benches for muscle training.

The trail was designed by a personal trainer and sports science expert to improve strength, stamina and agility.

Trim Trail coordinator, Victoria Curtis, said: "The trail is basically designed to give everyone, from children to grandparents, a gentle 30 minute workout, with the added benefit of inspirational views rather than the four walls of a gym.

"We want people to rediscover the beautiful countryside on their doorstep and this is a really enjoyable and healthy way to get back in touch with the natural world."
