Views sought on Southampton school expansion plan

A consultation has begun over plans to expand 20 Southampton primary schools to cope with rising birth rates.

The city council wants residents' views on proposals to add 160 reception class places in September 2011 and a further 195 places in 2012.

As the expanded classes move through the education system, the schools would also grow, meaning there will be 2,900 extra primary level places by 2018.

The consultation will run for six weeks.
