Romsey driver killed in tree crash named


A driver who died when his car hit a tree in an early morning crash in Hampshire has been named.

Jason Bates, of West Wellow, Romsey, was driving a silver BMW on the A3090 at Ridge Lane near East Wellow at about 0720 GMT on Sunday.

The 29-year-old died at the scene from serious injuries.

An investigation was launched into the crash, although officers do not yet know how the vehicle left the road and are appealing for witnesses.

The road remained closed for several hours while investigators inspected the scene.
