Southampton driver dies in M27 hard shoulder crash
A driver was killed when his car ploughed into a vehicle on the hard shoulder of a Hampshire motorway.
The victim, an 84-year-old man from Southampton, was driving a Kia Picanto on the M27 near Fareham when it crashed into a Ford Galaxy on Sunday.
The driver of the Ford, a 47-year-old man and his passenger, a 33-year-old woman, both of Southampton, had been about to pull back on to the road.
The elderly man was taken to hospital, where he died in the early hours.
The occupants of the other car suffered minor injuries, with the passenger being taken to hospital but later released.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, on the eastbound carriageway.
Sgt Mark Weller, of Hampshire Constabulary, said: "We need to hear from anyone who saw the collision itself or either vehicle in the time leading up to the collision.
"At this stage we do not know the reason why the driver of the Kia Picanto went on to the hard shoulder, and need witnesses to help us with our investigation."
