Body washed up on Isle of Wight beach was missing man

A body found washed up on a beach on the Isle of Wight has been confirmed as that of a missing man.

The death of Ian Lanfear, 45, of Victoria Road, Freshwater, is not being treated as suspicious after he was found in Freshwater Bay on Monday.

He had been reported missing after leaving his home at about 1000 BST on Sunday morning.

Police are trying to trace his last movements. An inquest into the death has been opened and adjourned.

Mr Lanfear's next of kin have been informed.

Police want to speak to anyone who may have seen Mr Lanfear since Sunday.

He was described as white, 5ft 8in tall, of slim build with receding short dark hair.

He was last seen wearing a dark brown waterproof jacket, navy blue jeans, dark shoes and a scarf.
