Southampton footballer Lee Barnard faces 'attack' trial

A Southampton footballer has been committed for trial over an alleged attack outside a nightspot in the city which left a man with head injuries.

Lee Barnard, a striker for the League One club, is charged with assault causing actual bodily harm outside the city's White House bar on 3 October.

Mr Barnard, 26, of Ocean Village, appeared before magistrates earlier.

He was released on unconditional bail ahead of the tiral at Southampton Crown Court on 8 June.

Mr Barnard signed for the club from Southend United in January 2010.
