Woman attacked in Portsmouth as gang shout race abuse

A Portsmouth woman has been attacked and robbed by a group of teenagers who shouted racist abuse at her.

The 47-year-old victim was walking past the adventure playground on Waterloo Street in Somerstown on Thursday night when three young men approached her.

One of them kicked her on the leg causing her to fall over while another took her handbag with £100 in it.

They also stole two mobile phones and a gold bracelet before running off down the road.

Det Con Amanda Waite, of Hampshire police, said: "Although the victim didn't suffer any permanent injuries, she has been clearly upset by the robbery and use of physical violence and racial abuse against her.

"There may have been someone nearby whose attention was drawn to it because of the raised voices and language used."
