Boy, two, dies in Southampton paddling pool incident

A two-year-old boy has died after he was found unconscious and not breathing in a paddling pool in Southampton.

Police were called by South Central Ambulance Service to a house in Hatley Road, Bitterne, on Wednesday evening.

The child was taken to Southampton General Hospital but medical staff were unable to save him and he died there.

Specialist officers are currently investigating the death, which is not being treated as suspicious.

A South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called at 1833 BST yesterday to reports of a young child who was in a life-threatening condition having been pulled out of a pool."

She said two ambulances and an ambulance supervisor were sent to the incident.

They treated the toddler before he was taken to hospital.
