Southampton Airport suffers delays after electrical fault

Almost all flights in and out of Southampton Airport are now running normally after delays due to an electrical fault on the runway.

A spokeswoman said the airport's control tower was evacuated and the airport closed because smoke was billowing from runway lights.

Passengers had faced delays of about two hours.

Two inbound flights from Rennes and Avignon, both in France, had to be diverted to Bournemouth Airport.

The airport spokeswoman said the airport closed at 12:00 BST and reopened at 14:00 BST.
