A 56-mile (90km) march during the Falklands War is being replicated in Hampshire's New Forest later.

A Royal Navy team, from HMS Sultan in Gosport, plans to pull a field gun the distance Royal Marines covered from San Carlos to Port Stanley, in 1982.

Chief Petty Officer Dan McCormack said: "The team are very fit and robust so I'm sure they'll smash the 56 miles."

The gun will be taken from Marchwood to Lepe by landing craft before being pulled round the forest's roads.

The team of about 20 sailors hope to complete the "yomp" in two and a half days, finishing at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu on Sunday.

They are raising money for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.
