Power cut hits Southampton city centre

About 175 properties in Southampton city centre were left without electricity following a power cut.

Power supplies failed around Western Esplanade at about 08:25 BST because of a fault on the high-voltage network, a Southern Electric spokesman said.

A Southampton City Council spokesman said the Gateway service centre in Guildhall Square and The Civic Centre were among the buildings affected.

Engineers restored power by 10:30 BST and are working on permanent repairs.
