Portsmouth man dies after car overturns on Western Road

A man died when the car he was travelling in left the main carriageway and ended up on its roof.

The 42-year-old local man was a passenger in a BMW 3 series which left the road at the junction of Western Road and Portsbridge roundabout.

Hampshire Police said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 29-year-old man from Portsmouth, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He sustained minor hand injuries in the collision which happened on Sunday and remains in custody.

A 24-year-old woman passenger from Portsmouth sustained serious but not life threatening injuries and was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
