Man, 73, beaten and left unconscious in street attack

A 73-year-old man was beaten and left unconscious in an attack in Portsmouth.

The victim was walking from Laburnum Grove to London Road when one of a group of three men hurled a bottle at him near the Sir John Baker pub.

He turned and spoke to them and a man kicked him in the stomach, causing the victim to hit his head on a wall and fall to the ground unconscious.

The men fled the scene in a silver Renault Clio at 21:15 GMT on Saturday.

The victim was later treated at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth for swelling and bruising to the side of his head.

PC Daniel Neligan said: "I want to appeal directly to the men involved in the incident to come forward to the police and tell their side of the story.

"This includes the two men who were with the man responsible for the assault."

The man with the bottle is described as dark-haired and in his early 20s. He wore jeans and a light-coloured jacket.
