Portsmouth man in his 90s hurt in gas explosion at home
A man in his 90s suffered severe burns in a gas explosion at his Hampshire home.
About 15 firefighters were called to the terraced house in Walden Road, Portsmouth, shortly after 08:00 GMT.
The man received first aid at the scene before being taken to hospital with burns to his head and hands.
The force of the explosion caused windows at the front of the house to shatter. Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service is investigating the cause.
A window at a neighbouring property is also believed to have smashed.
No-one else is thought to have been hurt.
Station manager Andy Lock, was in charge of the incident. He said: " The gas within the property has now been isolated, but because of the flying debris a neighbour's window was broken. However, nobody was hurt.
"The crew reacted quickly to the incident and put the fire out in good time, ensuring that the scene was safe for all."
Southern Gas visited the house to find the source of the gas leak.
